Dry head: detach, unlock, slide out bar, secure again. Original guide illustration; compare the parts with your manual.

1. Match the model and parts

Read SV10 on the machine label and compare your parts with manual 229602-01. Filter A has a small pinch handle; Filter B twists off the rear. A star-shaped top is a different version. Confirm the dry motorized head in this manual before following a brush task.

Region: US

Parts: Pinch-handle Filter A and twist-off Filter B; original dry motorized head

Not covered: V8 star pre-filter; V8 Cyclone; Soft roller / Fluffy head cleaning; V10 / V11; Modified batteries or aftermarket heads.

Read all possible routes

Is the charger disconnected, the machine cool and undamaged, and your hand away from the trigger?

  • Yes — Continue with the matching parts and the checks below.
  • No — Stop for a damaged charger, burning smell, liquid exposure, a swollen or leaking battery, broken catches or an obstruction you cannot safely reach. Contact Dyson and keep the battery sealed.
  • Not sure — Save your observations and compare the matching manual before continuing.

Is this the dry motorized head with the padlock-marked coin fastener and removable bar pictured in the manual?

  • Yes — Use only that user brush-bar release.
  • No — Fluffy, soft roller, newer heads and different fasteners require their own manual.
  • Not sure — Save your observations and compare the matching manual before continuing.

Is trapped dry hair/debris visible, with an intact bar and fastener?

  • Yes — Detach the head before using the coin.
  • No — If there is no trapped debris, use the non-turning-brush check; damage needs Dyson support.
  • Not sure — Save your observations and compare the matching manual before continuing.

4. Follow and record

Complete the checks before recording physical work. Follow steps in order.

  1. Separate the head

With the machine stopped, cool and disconnected from its charger, detach the head from the wand. Place it so the marked fastener and bar end are visible.

Look for: The head is disconnected before any brush contact.

Manual: p12 Looking for blockages; p10 Direct drive cleaner head: Clearing obstructions; p11 Operation
  2. Unlock only the marked fastener

Use a coin to release the fastener marked with a padlock, following the illustration for this head. Stop if it does not release normally.

Look for: The coin engages a user brush-bar lock, not a motor casing screw.

Manual: p12 Looking for blockages; p10 Direct drive cleaner head: Clearing obstructions; p11 Operation
  3. Withdraw the brush bar

Slide the released brush bar out in the direction shown for the matching head. Keep the fastener and bar together; stop if parts bind.

Look for: The head housing stays closed and dry.

Manual: p12 Looking for blockages; p10 Direct drive cleaner head: Clearing obstructions; p11 Operation
  4. Remove the obstruction dry

Carefully remove trapped hair and debris without damaging the bristles. Carbon-fiber brushes may irritate skin; wash your hands after handling them. Keep water and cleaning products away from the motorized head.

Look for: The bar and its accessible seating area are free of the observed obstruction.

Manual: p12 Looking for blockages; p10 Direct drive cleaner head: Clearing obstructions; p11 Operation
  5. Return the bar

Replace the bar in its original seating position. Ensure it sits correctly before tightening the marked fastener.

Look for: A bar that will not seat normally needs the matching manual or support; do not force it.

Manual: p12 Looking for blockages; p10 Direct drive cleaner head: Clearing obstructions; p11 Operation
  6. Secure the fastener

Tighten the padlock-marked fastener as shown and check that the bar is held firmly. Reconnect the head only after this check.

Look for: The lock is secure before the head is powered again.

Manual: p12 Looking for blockages; p10 Direct drive cleaner head: Clearing obstructions; p11 Operation
  7. Use the assembly check

Follow Verify the vacuum after care for bin, filter and connection checks, then observe brush operation during normal use. Stop if it still jams or does not turn.

Look for: Save the trapped-material and locking record for any follow-up.

Manual: p11 Vacuuming; Washing the filters; p12 Looking for blockages

5. Keep your result

Record what you observed. A completed checklist does not certify that equipment is repaired.

When to check again

Visible hair or dry debris is trapped around the matching brush bar.

As needed for this condition. No fixed calendar interval is specified for this check; choose your own review date if useful.
