Charging and during-use lights have different meanings
Charging and during-use lights have different meanings. Original guide illustration; compare the parts with your manual.

1. Match the model and parts

Read SV10 on the machine label and compare your parts with manual 229602-01. Filter A has a small pinch handle; Filter B twists off the rear. A star-shaped top is a different version. Confirm the dry motorized head in this manual before following a brush task.

Region: US

Parts: Pinch-handle Filter A and twist-off Filter B; original dry motorized head

Not covered: V8 star pre-filter; V8 Cyclone; Soft roller / Fluffy head cleaning; V10 / V11; Modified batteries or aftermarket heads.

Choose the versions you can confirm.

Match the model and preparation to start.

Read all possible routes

Is the charger disconnected, the machine cool and undamaged, and your hand away from the trigger?

  • Yes — Continue with the matching parts and the checks below.
  • No — Stop for a damaged charger, burning smell, liquid exposure, a swollen or leaking battery, broken catches or an obstruction you cannot safely reach. Contact Dyson and keep the battery sealed.
  • Not sure — Save your observations and compare the matching manual before continuing.

Which charging pattern did you observe?

  • Blue lights, or all lights off — Distinguish progression from the fully charged state below.
  • A flashing red light, with or without flashing blue — Flashing red indicates a battery fault; flashing red with flashing blue indicates a charger fault in this manual. Contact Dyson.
  • Not sure — Compare the charging diagram with the machine stopped.

Is the specified charger intact and the machine dry, cool and free of battery damage?

  • Yes — Observe charging only with the machine closed and in the stated indoor conditions.
  • No — Stop charging and contact Dyson about damage or unsafe symptoms.
  • Not sure — Save your observations and compare the matching manual before continuing.

4. Follow and record

Complete the checks before recording physical work. Follow steps in order.

  1. Separate charging from use

Record that the pattern was seen while the charger was connected. The charging and during-use diagrams assign different meanings to blue lights.

Look for: If it occurred while using the vacuum, switch to Read lights during use.

Manual: p11 Diagnostics – lights during charging; p12 Charging and storage; Battery safety instructions
  2. Inspect the disconnected charger

With the charger unplugged, inspect its cable and housing externally. Keep the battery sealed. A damaged cable, unusual smell, leakage or distortion ends the task.

Look for: Only the correct undamaged Dyson-specified charger is eligible for the next step.

Manual: p11 Diagnostics – lights during charging; p12 Charging and storage; Battery safety instructions
  3. Connect in a dry indoor place

Use the specified charger with the machine fully assembled, dry and cool. After a full discharge, let it cool for a few minutes before charging.

Look for: The cable is not stretched or trapped and the machine is away from heat and moisture.

Manual: pp2–3 Important safety instructions; p11 Looking after your Dyson machine; p12 Charging and storage
  4. Identify the exact pattern

One flashing blue means charging from low; one solid plus one flashing blue means medium; two solid plus one flashing blue means nearly full. All lights off is the manual’s fully charged display in the charging context.

Look for: A dark display alone, without charge history, does not establish a working charger.

Manual: p11 Diagnostics – lights during charging; p12 Charging and storage; Battery safety instructions
  5. Record progress or a concern

Observe the normal charge sequence without opening the machine. Save the later pattern. Stop and contact Dyson for a red pattern or persistent unfamiliar behavior; do not infer which part to buy from silence alone.

Look for: Normal progression, full indication or an unresolved concern is the useful result.

Manual: p11 Diagnostics – lights during charging; p12 Charging and storage; Battery safety instructions

5. Keep your result

Record what you observed. A completed checklist does not certify that equipment is repaired.

When to check again

The charging light pattern is unfamiliar or charging seems incomplete.
